In rural communities, if people didn’t do things for themselves and help each other in times of crisis, life would be pretty bleak. RFCS WA, for example, is government funded but it’s not a government agency, it’s run by a community group.
Most places the loss of even one farming family or local business will be felt by everyone. If it’s associated with tragedy such as a suicide, the long-term affects can be profound.
That’s an outcome RFCS WA helps avoid. We’ve actually got a long track record of success in turning people’s business situation around.
To do our work however we need to be able to engage with people in stress. The earlier we can start our work, the better the outcome we can deliver.
Not everyone knows about us though. And very often people in distress shut down and don’t reach out for help, even if they know about it. They may lose faith that their situation can be resolved.
Sometimes what’s needed is a little push. Giving someone information, sending them to this website, passing on a Counsellor’s card.
RFCS WA is dependent on community for this outreach. It doesn’t take much, but you or your organisation can do it.
