When a farm or business is in financial distress, many local suppliers get to know about it, or at least suspect it, often quite early. If it comes to a bad end, they may get to share in the losses – and the economic loss will spread throughout the community.
There is something you can do about this, starting right at the first hint of stress.
You can make sure they know about RFCS WA. That they have a proven track record of resolving tough financial situations. That they are confidential, that they work only for their clients’ best interests and that they are free to qualified rural businesses (funded by state and Federal governments but run by a community group).
One of the toughest situations a rural supplier can face is a request for extended credit. Probably you know the person well. You want to help them. But the request indicates financial stress and you don’t want to set yourself up for a big loss.
RFCS WA offers you a way of dealing with situation. You can say:
We can look at that, but we’ve had to put rules in place to make sure we meet our own creditor obligations. We need first for you to have a proper business plan in place that shows how you’ll make payments.
If they don’t say, “Sure, I’ll email it as soon as I get home,” you can then hand them an RFCS WA card and say to them:
You know about RFCS? They help rural businesses get their financial structure sorted, they’ve got a good track record and they’re free if you qualify. Why don’t you give them a call?
We won’t tell you what happens between a client and us unless they authorise us to, but they can choose to share with you the plans we will help them develop. And we can tell you this; if they are working with us, they have dramatically improved their chances of making it through.
So you can do your best to help, without exposing your own business to unnecessary risk.
Other ways you can help us reach people who will benefit from RFCS WA services include:
- Including a mention of RFCS WA in your newsletter, website or mail-outs. Just a sentence or two will do it, or we can provide you with ready-to-use banners or ads.
- Displaying, distributing and passing on RFCS WA cards or brochures, or putting up a poster.
- Inviting an RFCS WA person to make a short presentation to your staff.
- Inviting us to contribute a few minutes to any presentations you make.
- Including our material in any public displays or stalls you mount.
